video idea 1

Introduce yourself to voters

This is the video where parents and neighbors learn who you are. You say your name, your job, why you are running. Maybe mention your kids' school, a volunteer role, a decade at the district. Keep it personal and short. Voters in a school board race are often deciding between people they have never seen before.

video idea 2

Explain one school-board priority

Pick one of your local priorities: buses that run on time, a leaking roof, library hours, class sizes. You do not need to cover everything. One clear priority, stated plainly, lands harder than a list. This is where you name the problem and say what you would do about it if elected.

30 or 60 seconds

What photos and clips can you use?

School events, board meetings, your kids at school, volunteering, a phone clip filmed in your kitchen or outside the school. Photos alone are enough. Nobody comes to film anything.

  • Photos at school events or board meetings
  • Clips of your kids walking to school
  • A phone video filmed outside the school
  • Pictures volunteering at a school function
  • A short clip in your kitchen or driveway

The sample below, 'Small Things,' is for a fictional candidate named Priya Menon. It is 26 seconds, horizontal, and uses a paper pop-up storybook animation with no photographs at all. Each page of the book is one small thing that matters. It suits a candidate who has few pictures but clear ideas about what needs fixing.

Hi, I'm Priya Menon: school librarian, mom of two.

The book opens and a paper school pops up

I'm running for school board because small things matter. Like a bus that shows up on time.

A yellow bus pulls up to waving kids

A roof that doesn't leak.

A patch lands on the roof and the sun comes out

And a library that's open when kids need it.

The library's windows light up at dusk

Small things, big difference.

Questions

Do I need a script?

No. I write the video from your notes. If you have a script already, send it and I will use that instead.

Do I need video clips, or are photos enough?

That is fine. Photos alone are enough. I edit the video from still images, music, and captions. No filming needed.

What do I put in the Paid for by line?

Your committee tells me the exact wording it is required to use. Rules differ by state and office, so I do not advise on that part.

Can I make more than one video?

Yes. An order holds up to five videos. Each gets its own short brief, its own length and shape.

Do you film anything for me?

No. Nobody comes to film. I work from the photos and clips you already have. If you want new footage, that is outside what I do.

What style should I pick for my video?

Tell me what you like: bold, warm, animated, or a classic TV-spot feel. Or leave it to me. The sample on this page is animated with no photos at all.
